The Axiata Arena erupted in cheers last night as Farah Lee, a Malaysian volunteer from the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission, took the stage at the “Himpunan Solidariti Bersama Gaza” rally. Farah, along with 22 other Malaysians, was detained by Israeli forces during the flotilla's mission to deliver aid to Gaza. Speaking to the crowd, she emphasized that the mission was about Gaza, breaking the blockade, and uniting nations to end genocide.
Farah shared the hardships she endured during her detention, including being denied water for four days, and praised the Malaysian people for amplifying their voices. The rally featured emotional accounts from the 23 volunteers, including singer Heliza Helmi, who described the terrifying moments when armed soldiers stormed their vessel, and singer Zizi Kirana, who recounted being mistreated by soldiers.
Preacher PU Rahmat spoke humorously of his interrogation and the unity forged in prison over the cause of Gaza. Another preacher, Ustaz Mad Kecil, shared how his handcuffs were tightened during detention, drawing strength from fellow volunteers, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.
The rally, attended by thousands, celebrated the courage of the volunteers and reaffirmed Malaysia's unwavering support for Palestine.
