A university student died during a robbery attack at his residence near campus Sunday night. Abdulwahab Abubakar studied Chemistry Education as a third-year student at Ibrahim Babangida University Lapai. Armed robbers attacked the 300-level student around 2:30 AM at his off-campus lodge. His death marks the fifth reported killing of students at the Niger State university. Family members received news of the attack about one hour after it happened.
Abubakar's father rushed to Lapai hospital after learning about the incident. He found his son's body and described the scene as devastating for the family. The father called the attack a terrible blow that ended his son's promising future before it could begin. He demanded better security measures from Niger State officials to protect students. The grieving parent said families work hard to educate their children and deserve safety assurances.
University officials have not released details about the robbery or arrests. The incident has created fear among parents who send children to study at the institution. Abdulwahab's stepbrother and cousin said the family remains heartbroken over the loss. His mother was unable to speak about her son's death due to shock. The student received burial services Monday morning at Paiko.
