FFVI remake won't be Hamaguchi's next gig

Kefka stans hoping for a modern reimagining just took a massive L immediately because Naoki Hamaguchi refuses to touch that project. The developer told an interviewer he grew up worshipping the SNES classic, yet he possesses zero desire to lead development on a revival. Spending ten years reconstructing Midgar burned him out completely.

He prefers letting a fresh young creator handle the magitek aesthetic instead. Staying shackled to the creative limits of a 1994 cartridge for a decade sounds exhausting. Furthermore, the challenges involved with revamping fourteen playable heroes and the sprawling World of Ruin seem like a logistical nightmare compared to Gaia.

Balancing an ensemble narrative requires immense effort. Any official announcements regarding Terra or her friends will likely stay quiet until the current trilogy wraps up. The team needs to finish the third chapter first, which promises fully traversable airship travel on the Highwind for the grand finale.
