Finance Minister Calls on Religious Leaders to Fight Poverty

State Minister for Finance Henry Musasizi asked church leaders to help fight poverty alongside their religious teachings. He spoke at the ceremony where Edward Mwesigwa became the new Archdeacon of St. Paul's Kacereere Church of Uganda in Rubanda District. Bishop Gaddie Akanjuna led the event, which had many political figures attending. The group included local officials Stephen Kasyaba, Moses Kamuntu, Prossy Mbabazi Akampulira, and Dr. Nicholas Kamara.

Musasizi stressed the importance of religious leaders in reducing poverty in communities. He said the government wants to improve lives and asked church leaders to include messages about economic growth in their sermons. He mentioned several programs that aim to help families earn more money, such as the Grow Project, Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and Youth Livelihood Program. These initiatives target different groups across Uganda.

The Finance Minister praised Bishop Akanjuna for building peace in the Kigezi Diocese. He also urged political leaders to stay honest during election season and avoid creating hatred. He reminded everyone that after voting ends, they must work together for the area to progress. At the ceremony, Joshua Owoyesiga congratulated the new archdeacon and asked God to guide his leadership journey. Mwesigwa promised to spread Bible teachings and finish building projects.

Bishop Akanjuna asked Musasizi to check on the promised renovations for Janani Luwum Memorial School. He thanked Stephen Kasyaba for helping with church construction projects. The Bishop told Mwesigwa his success would depend on prayer and teamwork with church members. Mwesigwa shared that he was baptized at St. Paul's Kacereere back in 1962 and even took his primary school exams there. He has served at many churches before returning to lead his childhood parish.
