President Museveni Urges Kigezi to Fight Poverty With Wealth Creation

Uganda's leader, Mr. Museveni, asked the people of Kigezi to listen carefully to his message about making money. He talked to many people at a big meeting in Rukiga on Friday. He wants everyone to live better lives.

Mr. Museveni remembered when his team first came to help Uganda. They found many poor people. He told everyone he wanted them to make money like him. He said his government made sure children received their medicine shots. They started free schools for everyone. They wanted all families to become rich.

Some people at the schools ask parents for money even though learning should be free. Mr. Museveni promised to fix this problem. He asked everyone to plant special crops on their land. He wants them to grow coffee, fruits, grass for cows, and food. People can raise chickens for eggs and keep pigs at home. Anyone living near wet places can raise fish.

The government provides money to help people start small businesses. Mr. Museveni warned that anyone stealing this money would go to jail. He thinks people should use wet areas to raise fish and water their plants. He asked everyone to work together as families and not split their land into tiny pieces when someone died.

Mr. Thomas Tayebwa, an important government official, asked men not to waste money on beer. He wants them to use it to help their families live better. Another leader, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, thanked Mr. Museveni for building better roads and asked people not to fight because of their different religions or tribes.

Mr. Roland Ndyomugyenyi, who speaks for Rukiga, thanked Mr. Museveni for helping people make money. Many important people came to listen at this big meeting, including government ministers and others who make rules for Uganda.
