First Lady Free to Shine Tackles HIV in Taraba

First Lady Tinubu has kicked off a health drive called Free to Shine in Taraba State. This campaign aims to wipe out HIV/AIDS, syphilis, and hepatitis from women who can have babies. She made her announcement Friday in Jalingo, telling everyone the program targets women, youth, mothers with HIV, and their children. The campaign will run across all six zones of Nigeria, starting with the northeast region.

Traditional chiefs have joined religious leaders to help spread the word to people in remote areas. Mrs. Tinubu told Nigerians not to worry because the government has plenty of test kits for HIV. She assured everyone that anti-retroviral medications remain available for those who need them. Governor Kefas welcomed her warmly to Taraba State, praising this federal health push.

The governor named two HIV-positive people as Special Advisers to his wife, showing his support for the cause. He declared that his administration wants Taraba completely HIV-free before 2030 arrives. Health Minister Professor Pate revealed the government has set aside N200 billion for HIV medicines in the next budget. This nationwide strategy works to stop disease spread, cut new infections, and help HIV patients, especially women. The campaign focuses mainly on mothers with children.
