First-Time Governors Brace for Fierce Election Battles

Many people want to become governors in Kenya. These important leaders run different parts of the country called counties. They have a lot of power and control large amounts of money. People even call them presidents in their counties.

Four people want to replace Governor Johnson Sakaja in Nairobi. Babu Owino, who works in Embakasi East, said he would run against Sakaja. Tim Wanyonyi from Westlands also wants the job. James Gakuya and Dennis Waweru hope to win as well. Sakaja might have a better chance because he has already won two big elections.

In another place called Kakamega, the current governor, Fernandes Barasa, faces tough competition. Two people named Boni Khalwale and Cleophas Malala want his job. Malala thinks Barasa hasn't finished important building projects like a stadium and a hospital.

The race is heating up in Isiolo between Governor Abdi Guyo and Senator Fatuma Dullo. Dullo often says Guyo isn't helping the county grow. Guyo disagrees and says he has made things better by fixing hospitals and helping young people.

Many people want to become governors in Mombasa. The current governor, Abdulswamad Nassir, will have to compete with Hassan Omar, Mohamed Ali, and several others. Mohamed Ali says he has done good things, like building schools and police stations. He wants to help everyone in Mombasa and make sure nobody feels left out.

The next election will happen in 2027. Many people will work hard to prove they can be the best leader for their county. They want to show they can make life better for all the people who live there.
