Fishing boat seized in billion-dollar drug bust

A Malaysian national connected to the Sam Gor drug syndicate received a life sentence for a massive narcotics violation. A Philippine court convicted Kong Ket Koon after his fishing vessel, the F/B Christeve, was intercepted near Subic in Zambales. Authorities discovered 1.48 million grams of shabu, commonly known as methamphetamine, with an estimated value of 10 billion Philippine pesos.

The court also mandated a 10 million peso fine and the government's seizure of the fishing boat. Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency head Isagani Nerez called the conviction a significant moral victory. He stated that resolving such a high-profile case within five months represented swift justice, which reinforces public confidence in the nation's anti-drug campaign. This interdiction was described as one of the largest in the country's naval history.
