Five guys face charges in the death of Ivan Oloya, a 30-year-old who taught at Seeta High School. The Mukono police picked them up after the killing. Ivan died Saturday at 1:30 AM in an area locals call Bajjo Cell, part of Nyenje Ward in Goma Division.
Patrick Onyango, who talks to the press for Kampala cops, said police dogs helped track down these five men. The arrested men include Paul Kasumba (21), Simon Mabale (23), Tom Kibuuka (38), Simon Lukodda (18), and Charles Dani Kandoole (16). Four work odd jobs for cash, and Tom fixes cars for a living.
The attack came as Ivan headed home from work. He fell near Code High School, where his wife, Abbey Mercy, teaches classes. He never made it past that spot. His body went to Mulago for tests to show exactly what killed him. The police continue looking into the reasons behind the attack.
Crime stats paint a scary picture across Uganda. Police counted 4,539 murders in their 2023 report. That breaks down to 12 deaths from violence every day. The causes range from street justice by angry crowds to fights between family members to deadly robbery attempts.
Local cops ask people to stay cool but keep their eyes open. They promise more police walking the streets of Mukono soon. They also want to team up with locals to stop such awful acts before they happen.
