Food court brawl erupts into gunfire at West County Center mall

Authorities placed the West County Center mall under emergency lockdown Saturday afternoon following reports of potential gunfire. Emergency responders received calls around 2 p.m. regarding an active shooter situation at the Des Peres shopping facility located west of St. Louis. Witnesses observed approximately seven or eight individuals engaged in a physical altercation within the food court area. During the confrontation, bystanders reported hearing sounds resembling gunshots that prompted immediate evacuation efforts. Mall patrons sought refuge inside retail establishments while police secured the premises.

Officers have not verified whether actual gunfire occurred during the incident. Emergency personnel deployed substantial resources to address the reported threat at the shopping center. Shoppers remained sheltered inside various stores awaiting official clearance for safe departure. The extent of potential injuries remains unknown as investigations continue. West County Center houses more than 100 retail establishments and restaurants within its structure, completed in 2001, featuring anchor stores Macy's, Nordstrom, Dick's Sporting Goods, and JCPenney.
