For $1, OpenAI aims to hook the entire US government on ChatGPT

OpenAI partners with the General Services Administration to provide ChatGPT Enterprise access to federal executive agencies for one dollar annually. The artificial intelligence company aims to accelerate government adoption of its technology while supporting the Trump administration's AI Action Plan. Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap stated the initiative helps civil servants become more productive and effective in their work responsibilities. This strategic partnership removes financial barriers that might prevent agencies from implementing advanced generative AI tools. The collaboration represents OpenAI's commitment to integrating artificial intelligence across the public sector.

The discount program extends from OpenAI's June launch of OpenAI for Government, which tailors services to federal requirements. The company previously secured a two-hundred-million-dollar contract with the Department of Defense, demonstrating its expanding government relationships. OpenAI plans to collect user feedback during the trial period to improve government-specific applications. Several agencies have entered discussions regarding pilot programs and potential long-term partnerships. This approach allows OpenAI to establish goodwill with regulatory bodies while positioning itself competitively within the public sector market.
