Former Arsenal Star Thomas Partey Charged with Rape and Sexual Assault

Arsenal star Thomas Partey faces serious criminal charges after police finished their investigation. The 32-year-old midfielder must answer to five rape counts and one sexual assault charge when he appears at Westminster Magistrates Court next Tuesday. Metropolitan Police say the crimes happened between 2021 and 2022. Three different women came forward to report the football player. Two rape charges connect to the first woman and three more relate to the second victim.

Partey's contract with Arsenal ended on Monday after four years with the London club. The Ghana international joined the Gunners from Atletico Madrid for a massive 45.3 million pounds back in October 2020. He became a key player under manager Mikel Arteta during his time at the Emirates Stadium. The midfielder helped Arsenal finish second in the Premier League last season. He also played a major role as the team reached the Champions League semi-finals before Paris St-Germain knocked them out.

Police started looking into Partey after receiving the first rape report in February 2022. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy leads the investigation team and wants more people to come forward with information. The officer says supporting the women remains their main focus throughout this case. Partey made 130 Premier League appearances for Arsenal and scored nine goals during his four-year stay.
