Doctors at Moulvibazar 250-bed hospital declared four workers dead on arrival. Hospital chief Dr Pronoy Kanti Das said the men died from breathing toxic fumes inside the septic tank. The surviving worker received emergency treatment before being moved to a bigger hospital in Sylhet. Police chief Aminul Islam confirmed that legal action would follow the workplace tragedy. The incident highlights dangerous working conditions at the tea plantation.

The deadly gas leak happened while the workers performed routine maintenance duties. Tea garden management called emergency services after discovering the unconscious men.
