Four gunmen killed in Norton Tollgate shootout

Four suspects died and two detectives suffered serious injuries after a shootout near Norton tollgate. CID Homicide Unit officers pursued the criminals based on intelligence reports about their movements. The suspects fired at pursuing officers and sparked an exchange of gunfire.

Police recovered two 9mm pistols, three ammunition rounds, and distinctive clothing from the suspects' silver Toyota Axio. Investigators matched a navy blue jacket and grey army green shoes to CCTV footage from a Harare hospital robbery on Sept. 30. The gang stole 1,833 dollars in cash and 140 dollars in airtime vouchers from that location.

Authorities linked the group to five additional robberies across the country. Commissioner Paul Nyathi stated that the police will continue to target armed robbery syndicates under national law. The wounded detectives remain hospitalized as the investigation proceeds.
