Four men charged over theft of road project cement in Mutare

Some dudes tried to steal cement meant for a road, probably wrecking its quality. Four men appeared in the Mutare court for plotting to steal cement from the Odzi to Marange road project. They face charges for stealing trust property after allegedly taking hundreds of bags. The accused are Innocent Mariko, Nigel Munetsi, Munyaradzi Shamba, and Tinashe Chiwanza.

They got bail set at one hundred dollars each while awaiting trial. The cement was stored for a government-contracted project to build a six-kilometer road. The group allegedly sold three hundred seventy bags, causing a major financial loss. A tip led to their arrest after the cement disappeared from the council hall storage.

Investigations found they sold bags to a hardware shop owner in Chigodora. Only one bag remained for recovery as evidence from that sale. The total government loss is estimated at over five thousand dollars. The theft potentially compromises the road construction quality and progress.
