France warns Shein over illegal listings

French authorities have threatened to block access to Shein's digital platform after investigators discovered prohibited firearms and child-like sex dolls available for purchase through the retailer's marketplace. The Finance Ministry warned that failure to remove such items could result in a nationwide suspension of the site.

The announcement arrived as Shein inaugurated its first permanent location in Paris on November 3, where demonstrators gathered outside the BHV Marais store to protest alleged corporate misconduct. Company representatives stated they have eliminated all sex doll merchandise, closed their adult category, and initiated an internal review while cooperating with government officials.

Industry analysts suggest the scandal could complicate Shein's potential public offering by deterring prospective investors. The duration these prohibited products remained accessible on the platform remains undetermined, though the retailer continues operating online throughout France during the investigation.
