Fraudster Chivayo Upstages Mnangagwa at ZITF

Tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo stood close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa during his Bulawayo visit for the Zimbabwe Trade International Fair. Many noticed how Chivayo appeared more prominent than government ministers when they toured exhibits with Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Friday. This raised eyebrows about his relationship with top leadership amid questions about his wealth sources. Earlier this year, Mnangagwa told editors he had no connection to Chivayo, describing him merely as a philanthropist.

Former Zanu PF member Reason Wafawarova criticized the situation, claiming government protocol has been replaced by what he calls a "Farm Cabinet" controlling presidential access. He pointed out how Chivayo, a convicted fraudster who served prison time, receives special treatment at official events. Former opposition MP Abednico Bhebhe suggested this public association might show Mnangagwa supports Chivayo despite corruption allegations. He argued that this damages perceptions about government accountability.

Bhebhe added that proper investigations should examine links between Mnangagwa and Chivayo's business dealings. The public display raises concerns about high-level protection for someone accused of corrupt activities.
