Fred Matiangi Back Home and Rumors Fly

Fred Matiangi returned to Kenya Thursday night after living abroad since the 2022 elections. The former interior cabinet secretary arrived at Jomo Kenyatta airport on a Qatar Airways flight. Political allies, including Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, greeted him at the airport. He avoided talking with reporters but thanked people for his safe trip home. He plans to address the public later.

His return fuels talk about his possible run for president in 2027. Several politicians have already endorsed him as their preferred candidate. Matiangi served as a powerful official during former president Uhuru Kenyatta's administration. He stayed away from Kenya after President William Ruto won office. The Jubilee Party recently announced full support for his potential campaign.

Kioni has repeatedly called for Matiangi to lead their party into the next election. He warned against efforts to block the former minister from running. At a recent party meeting in Kisii County, leaders confirmed they want him as their presidential candidate. Nyamira Senator Okongo Omogeni also expressed backing for his bid. Political observers watch closely as he returns to national politics.
