Matiang'i Fires Back at Uhuru Project Smear Campaign

Fred Matiang'i hit back hard at people calling him Uhuru Kenyatta's puppet. The former minister went on Citizen TV to slam these claims. He asked what being someone's project even means. Matiang'i reminded viewers that Uhuru picked over 30 people for cabinet jobs during his time as president. He wondered why critics only target him with this label.

The ex-interior boss served under Uhuru for ten years across three different government roles. Matiang'i pointed out that he just came from working at the World Bank. He joked that maybe people should call him their project instead. The politician made it clear he never asked Uhuru for permission to run for president. The two men do talk about Kenya's problems when they meet up.

Several opposition parties want Matiang'i as their candidate for the 2027 race. Different party leaders have backed him to challenge President William Ruto. Jubilee Party secretary general Jeremiah Kioni announced their support for Matiang'i back in February. Kioni said Uhuru gave his blessing for the presidential bid. The party official praised Matiang'i's experience as Uhuru's right-hand man during the final years in office.
