Funke Akindele just dropped another absolute box office nuke. Her new movie Behind The Scenes is officially the biggest Nollywood hit of 2025, already pulling in over 512 million Naira in just its first week. Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the feature smashed five separate opening weekend records, making it the first film this year to do that. It crossed the 500 million mark faster than any other Nigerian movie.
The project, starring Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana, had massive hype from early screenings before its wide release. This whole thing just cements Akindele's status as the undisputed champion of Nigerian cinema.
She basically owns the record books at this point. Her last film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, previously had the highest opening weekend ever and went on to become the top-grossing Nollywood film in history with more than 1.8 billion Naira domestically. That one even beat her own prior record set by A Tribe Called Judah.
