Gachagua Denies Sh10 Billion Blackmail Claim by Ruto

Rigathi Gachagua says he never asked President Ruto for Sh10 billion. He claims he already has plenty of money from his business deals. President Ruto said Gachagua tried to blackmail him during a talk with reporters last March. Ruto claimed Gachagua wanted billions to help keep supporters happy in the Mt. Kenya area. The former Deputy President believes these claims make no sense because blackmail charges never appeared in his impeachment papers.

Gachagua pointed out that Ruto changed his story when speaking to different regions. When visiting Western Kenya, Ruto said he removed Gachagua for being tribal and not doing his job well. The blackmail story only came up when Ruto toured the Mt. Kenya region. Gachagua says this shows the President might not be telling the truth. He mentioned that as a successful businessman for many years, he never needed money from anyone else.

The former Deputy President explained he joined the campaign because he believed in it. He spent his money and gathered resources from friends to support what he thought was right. Gachagua says if he had actually asked for billions, the President would have mentioned it much earlier than six months after the fact. This all happened just days after President Ruto finished a five-day trip through the Mt. Kenya area.

During his recent press talks, Ruto claimed Gachagua directly threatened him. The President said Gachagua warned he would make sure Ruto only served one term unless he paid the Sh10 billion. Ruto described trying to stop the fighting between them before these threats supposedly happened. The former Deputy President firmly denies all these claims and suggests they only appeared when Ruto needed support in certain regions.

Gachagua remains confident his reputation will stand against these accusations. He emphasizes that blackmail counts as a criminal offense, yet officials never charged him with this crime. The timing of these statements raises questions about political moves happening behind the scenes. Both men continue telling very different stories about what really happened between them during their time working together in the Kenyan government.
