Gambian Minister Urges Youth to Work, Not Just Criticize

A leader in the Gambia wants young people to help make their country better instead of saying mean things about President Barrow and his team. Mr. Ebrima Sillah discussed this after he looked at new roads being built across the country.

Mr. Sillah said things cost less money in Gambia than in other nearby countries. He asked people who complained about high prices what they were doing to help make things cheaper. He said no place beats high prices when people stay home and refuse to work.

He noticed many people from other countries working on the new roads. These workers earn at least 700 dalasis each day. Mr. Sillah wondered why more Gambians did not want these jobs. He said the government spends lots of money on roads, but most of the money goes to workers from other places because local people will not take the jobs. He mentioned that even the big leaders work extra jobs on weekends, with some of them running farms.

Mr. Sillah thinks people should stop blaming others for problems. He said leaders work very hard to help everyone, and he wants people to stop being mean about what others do.

The roads matter because they help everyone reach important places like hospitals, schools, and markets. When roads are good, people build new houses near them. Bad roads make it hard for fire trucks and police cars to help people. Mr. Sillah believes some people who say bad things about the roads do not understand how they help the country grow.

He said many people who complain do not check if what they say is true. He thinks it seems easy for people to sit at home and say bad things about others who work hard to make Gambia better. Mr. Sillah believes these people always doubt what any leader does, not just President Barrow.
