Tanzania urges youth to embrace TVET for skills and jobs

Tanzanian officials have challenged young citizens to embrace technical and vocational education as authorities work to eliminate outdated perceptions that skills training represents an inferior academic path. Bernadetta Ndunguru, who chairs the NACTVET Governing Council, told education stakeholders that the system provides immediate employment prospects and entrepreneurial capabilities rather than serving as a fallback for struggling students.

The official addressed representatives from technical colleges, vocational centers, and secondary schools during a workshop focused on implementing updated national standards. President Samia Suluhu Hassan prioritizes equipping youth with marketable abilities to strengthen workforce participation and economic contributions.

Executive Secretary Mwajuma Lingwanda noted that transforming the former National Council for Technical Education into NACTVET has enhanced the system, while the digital economy demands require flexible training models. The council completed revisions to quality standards and guidelines, which received approval for nationwide rollout across training institutions.
