Passion Center for the Children, a faith-based group in Zomba, recently celebrated as 14 young people finished their technical and vocational training program. The graduates included ten young men and four young women who all received helpful certificates and startup tools. The center began offering these skills training sessions back in 2023 as part of its youth empowerment efforts. This marks the second group of students who have completed the program.
Pastor Saul Mateyu, the center's Executive Director, expressed his happiness about the success of its youth training strategy. He strongly encouraged all the new graduates to put their fresh skills to good use and urged them not to sell the tools they received. Pastor Mateyu thanked TEVETA for giving the center official approval to run these vocational training programs. The center aims to help young people build better futures.
Sophie Mzunga, the Zomba District Youth Officer, praised the Passion Center for helping young people learn practical skills. She mentioned that these programs match perfectly with what Malawi hopes to achieve through its 2063 Vision. Ms. Mzunga encouraged the graduates to create jobs for themselves rather than waiting for someone else to hire them. Self-employment offers these young people a path toward financial independence.
The center provided different tools based on each person's training area. Some graduates received carpentry equipment, others got bricklaying tools, and some were given sewing machines. Lonjezo Mulele, one of the program graduates, shared that he planned to use his training to become self-employed and earn a living. He expressed gratitude toward the center for the valuable training.
