Gardee murder trial postponed again to 12 December 2025

The murder trial of Hillary Gardee has been delayed for a fifth time as serial killer Hlabirwa Rassie Nkuna prepares to work with his recently assigned legal representative. Mpumalanga High Court Judge Lindiwe Vukeya rescheduled proceedings to allow consultation between the accused and Advocate Musa Mavasa, who previously represented Nkuna before being replaced and then reinstated following disputes over attorney relationships and Legal Aid South Africa funding complications.

Nkuna faces charges including multiple counts of murder, sexual assault, robbery, and weapons possession related to the death of the former Economic Freedom Fighters official's daughter, who disappeared from a shopping center before being found fatally shot in a timber plantation. DNA evidence from the victim's fingernails links the convicted murderer to the crime, while prosecutors intend to present testimony from individuals initially arrested who later agreed to cooperate with authorities.
