Gen Muhoozi Cracks Down on Corruption in UPDF Engineers Brigade

Uganda's top military commander has locked up a high-ranking officer and his team for stealing money. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba runs the entire army and decided to arrest Brigadier General Cyrus Besigye Bekunda along with several other soldiers. The arrested men work for the Engineers Brigade which builds roads and military bases across the country. Kainerugaba posted angry messages online saying these officers took cash meant for important projects. He wants their punishment to scare other soldiers away from similar crimes.

The Engineers Brigade normally gets praise for completing construction jobs at low costs. Military investigators found problems during a recent money audit of the engineering unit. Financial experts are checking records and contracts to find exactly how much cash went missing. Sources inside the army say procurement deals and project management sparked the investigation.

Kainerugaba appears determined to clean up corruption inside Uganda's military forces. President Yoweri Museveni often talks about keeping the army honest and disciplined since taking power decades ago. The arrested officers will face military court proceedings instead of civilian trials. More soldiers might face arrest as investigators dig deeper into the engineering brigade's finances. This crackdown shows Kainerugaba wants to rebuild trust and accountability throughout the armed forces.
