Geo Pomona Poised to Control All Zimbabwe Waste

The waste company Geo Pomona wants to run trash pickup services across all of Zimbabwe. Company head Dilesh Nguwaya made this announcement after meeting Belarus officials. They plan to bring many garbage trucks from Belarus in the coming months. Local city governments did not know about these plans for their areas. The national government appears to support this expansion without asking cities first.

Geo Pomona already manages trash in Harare, charging money for each ton of garbage. When Harare cannot pay these fees, the national government covers the costs instead. The arrangement forces Harare to deliver specific amounts of trash daily or face penalties. Harare struggles to collect enough garbage with its few trucks and limited fuel. The company will soon handle everything from street cleaning to final waste disposal.

The total value might reach one billion dollars across all cities. Nguwaya has close ties to the president through his son Sean Mnangagwa. A court cleared him of earlier corruption claims about medical supplies. Some people admit the dump site looks better than before, despite concerns about how the company gained control.
