Ghana Activist Blasts Republic Day Prayer Plan

Oliver Barker-Vormawor attacked Ghana's plan to make July 1st a prayer day. The Democracy Hub leader called the decision wrong and harmful to national history. He said Republic Day should stay separate from religious activities. Government officials want citizens to thank God and pray for the country. Barker-Vormawor thinks this betrays what the day means.

July 1st marks when Ghana became fully independent from British rule. The activist said no other events should share that important date. He worries people will forget the real meaning of Republic Day. Leaders plan to combine thanksgiving prayers with independence celebrations. Barker-Vormawor believes this sends the wrong message to citizens.

The critic said Ghanaians fought hard to break free from colonial control. He thinks prayer day dishonors those who died for independence. Foreign powers once controlled Ghana through force and religion. Barker-Vormawor argues the country should remember its struggle instead of praying. He wants July 1st to stay focused on courage and defiance against oppression.
