Ghana's roads just turned into a loot-drop purge, and roughly 6,000 vehicles got their inventory wiped clean of every illegal siren and strobe light. ACP Alexander Kwaku Obeng, who runs education and training at the MTTD, confirmed the crackdown spans every police region, all 25 of them. Roughly 700 of the confiscated gear fell into the strobe or siren category.
And yeah, this isn't some one-off event. Obeng made it clear that cops are camping every major highway, the N1, N2, N4, N8, N9, N10, N12, the whole grid. He basically told anyone thinking about grabbing another beacon lamp that enforcement is baked into daily patrol routines across the full 16-region spread.
For the moment, offenders are walking away with spoken or written warnings while their gear gets confiscated. But repeat violators? They're staring down GH¢300 to GH¢600 fines, a possible 30-day jail stint, or other penalties under Ghana's traffic laws.
