Ghana's government struck a deal with phone companies to give everyone cheaper internet during the holidays. MTN, Telecel, and AT will offer special data packages on Independence Day, May Day, Republic Day, Founder's Day, and Farmers Day. Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George shared this news on Wednesday in Accra.
He called their Independence Day test run hugely successful. The government wants even better deals ready for May Day to celebrate workers across Ghana. This announcement came during a press update covering the Ministry's first quarter work.
They want the Internet to be cheaper for everyone. The Minister created a team in February with phone companies, consumer groups, plus regulators. This group finished their report in just 13 days. The National Communications Authority started planning how to make these changes happen.
Mr. George personally met with the heads of all three phone networks. These companies have already created special internet bundles for college students. They made plans to help content creators as well. Officials will announce the final details very soon after finishing technical requirements.
