Ghanaian Pilgrim Drops Dead At Grand Mosque

A 63-year-old woman from Ghana died during her pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia last Thursday. Hajia Yussif Hawabu collapsed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah as she walked around the Kaaba with other pilgrims. Officials buried her according to Muslim traditions shortly after her death. Ismaila Skones from the Hajj Task Force told reporters about the sad event that happened on May 15. He sent sympathies to her family back home in Tamale.

Saudi authorities work with Ghana's team to keep all visitors safe during their stay. The sacred journey brings Muslims from every corner of the world to holy sites each year. Ghana sent 6,000 people to Saudi Arabia for this important religious duty. Skones promised his team would continue to monitor the health of everyone who traveled there. The remaining Ghanaians will complete their rituals as planned despite losing a member of their group.
