Ghana's defense, environment ministers killed in Ashanti helicopter crash

A military aircraft carrying eight people crashed in Ghana's Ashanti region, killing all aboard. The victims included Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. Chief of Staff Julius Debrah announced the deaths during a press conference. The Ghana Armed Forces reported that the helicopter disappeared from radar systems before the crash occurred. Three crew members and five passengers perished in the accident.

Officials have not determined what caused the helicopter to go down. Debrah described the incident as a national tragedy during his public statement. The government expressed sympathy for the military personnel who lost their lives while serving their country. President John Dramani Mahama received condolences on behalf of the nation. Authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
