Ugandan Military Helicopter Crashes at Mogadishu Airport

A Ugandan military helicopter slammed into the ground at Somalia's biggest airport. Eight people rode inside the aircraft when it went down at Aden Adde International Airport. The crash happened at the main hub for flights coming into Mogadishu. Emergency crews raced to the scene after flames erupted from the wreckage. Thick black smoke poured across the airport grounds as firefighters battled the blaze.

Airport workers heard a loud explosion before seeing the helicopter burst into flames. Farah Abdulle watched smoke completely cover the damaged aircraft from his workplace. Video cameras captured huge clouds of gray smoke rising from the crash site. The fire department put out the flames before they could spread to other areas. Nobody knows what caused the helicopter to crash or how many people died.

The aircraft had flown from Balidogle military base before the deadly accident occurred. Ahmed Maalim runs Somalia's airplane safety department and confirmed the crash details. He said investigators would dig into what made the helicopter go down. The military section of the airport took the worst damage from the incident. Officials started looking into the crash right after it happened.

Ugandan soldiers fight alongside African Union peacekeepers against terror groups. They help Somalia's government battle the dangerous al-Shabab militants across the country. These fighters have been attacking Somalia for many years with brutal tactics. The helicopter crash adds more problems to the ongoing military operations. African Union troops continue their mission despite this setback.
