Ghana's Minister Calls for Strengthened Tech Partnerships with China at Business Summit

Ghana's Communication Minister Samuel Nartey George spoke at a business summit between Ghana and China on Friday, June 27, 2025. He addressed the meeting at Labadi Beach Hotel and asked for stronger technology partnerships between both countries. The minister outlined four main areas where the nations could work together. These areas covered fiber optics, cloud computing, satellite broadband, and cybersecurity. George wanted Chinese companies to help expand Ghana's internet infrastructure across the country.

The minister discussed Ghana's government cloud platform called G-Cloud. He invited Chinese experts to help make this system bigger for government offices, banks, and schools. George also talked about changing cybersecurity from fixing problems to preventing them. He wanted partnerships that would give Ghana better tools to protect against digital attacks. The minister believes these improvements will make Ghana's technology systems stronger.

George presented Ghana's Smart Cities Plan during his speech. This plan aims to add digital technology to city infrastructure through smart meters, transport systems, and lighting. He mentioned that Ghana plans to finish its Innovations and Startups Bill soon. The minister also explained Ghana's 24-Hour Economy strategy that uses digital platforms for round-the-clock business activities. He described how mobile money and digital payments could work all day and night.

The minister positioned Ghana as Africa's gateway for technology expansion. He encouraged Chinese companies to use Ghana as their base for reaching other African countries. George stressed the importance of data sovereignty and strong governance frameworks. He invited all attending technology companies to submit partnership proposals for future collaboration.
