Giants Nab Devers in Blockbuster Sox Trade

The Giants traded for Red Sox star Rafael Devers during mid-June. Boston receives pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison plus two minor league players. The Red Sox will pay all remaining money on Devers contract. Team officials identified prospects James Tibbs and Jose Bello as part of the deal. The trade shocked baseball fans across both markets.

Devers wanted to play third base but Boston signed Alex Bregman instead. Team leaders moved Devers to designated hitter after the Bregman signing. Tensions grew when officials asked Devers to play first base. The slugger refused to switch positions again during the season. Red Sox ownership met privately with Devers last month about his role.

Boston struggles with pitching problems this season. Harrison throws as a starter and posted a 4.91 earned run average. Hicks worked as both starter and reliever for San Francisco. The right-hander carries a 6.47 earned run average this year. Both pitchers can help Boston reach playoff contention.
