Local beauty pageant contestant Gifty Dery gave school supplies to 20 struggling students from Nandom. She handed out 12 uniforms, 60 exercise books, and two math sets during a ceremony at St. Andrews Junior High School on April 11. Students beamed with happiness as they received brand new uniforms. Several queen mothers attended, including the Paramount Queen Mother, who leads the Nandom area. The Dabagteng Queen Mother promised to provide two more uniforms after seeing the good deed.
The Agricultural Development Bank manager came to show support alongside the Zebra Orphanage director. Both the orphanage head and the local assembly member gave money to help Dery continue her work. Another official, Callistus Kog, also contributed cash to encourage her community efforts. Dery paid for everything herself without outside funding or sponsors. She brings many talents to her community as an award-winning musician who won Best Artiste at multiple festivals last year. Her manager discovered her musical abilities back in 2017.
Dery serves as a role model for young people across the region, especially girls who look up to her. The annual Kakube Festival, held every November, celebrates local culture and unity. Through her actions, Dery shows how young people can make real differences in their communities.
