GNPC unveils gas strategy to drive energy transformation and regional integration

Ghana National Petroleum Corporation wants to make natural gas the backbone of West Africa's energy future. The company shared its plans at the 2025 West Africa Gas Summit in Accra. Deputy Chief Executive Officer Hamis Ussif said gas serves as more than just fuel. He believes it can build a stronger and fairer energy system for Ghana and nearby countries.

Ghana currently produces about 425 million cubic feet of gas daily from three main sources. This gas powers around 70 percent of the country's electricity. The nation still faces shortages and rising demand. GNPC plans to boost production from existing fields and start importing gas through a new terminal. The company expects gas output from Jubilee field to jump from 100 to 140 million cubic feet daily.

GNPC has spent $190 million on pipeline projects that help move gas around the country better. The company also helped fund gas processing plants and power projects. Leaders want private companies to team up with them on future gas ventures. They plan to expand gas networks and build new distribution systems across Ghana.
