A sports car crashed at the Busabala Flyover early Saturday. Rajiv Ruparelia died when his Nissan GTR hit road barriers at a roundabout at about 1:54 AM. His car flipped over and caught fire right away. He had shared photos of his child on social media just hours before the crash.
The car was powerful, going from zero to 100 km/h in less than three seconds and reaching a top speed of 310 km/h. The area where he crashed had temporary barriers because of road work. Many drivers complained about poor signs and markings there. Rajiv ran the Ruparelia Group, which had businesses in real estate and education.
He loved racing and started his rally team to help the sport grow in Uganda. Born in 1990, he studied money management in London before coming back to Uganda. Road deaths keep rising, with over 5,100 people killed last year on Ugandan roads. His family will share funeral plans soon.
