The country will celebrate 45 years of freedom in Gokwe, located in the Midlands Province. Workers have almost finished setting up important buildings at the celebration spot. They fixed up historic places and built new schools and medical centers in the area. The sports field that will host major soccer teams in rural Gokwe seems ready for action.
Dr. Jenfan Muswere, who handles government information, talked to reporters yesterday after a Cabinet meeting. He shared how much progress everyone made. Hard-working crews keep busy at the main celebration area and the Gokwe North Open Grounds. The current government decided that each region should take turns hosting big national events because President Mnangagwa believes in spreading power to local areas.
Last year, Buhera hosted the 44th celebration, which attracted 70,000 people. This year, everyone will gather at Nembudziya Growth Point in the Gokwe North District. The First Family plans to host a special party for children on April 17 at Nyamuroro High School. Workers planted grass, built changing areas, added bright lights, and constructed bathrooms at the main site. They also fixed the road leading to the celebration spot.
The place where the children will party also looks much better than before. Dr. Muswere said preparations for both the independence celebration and the 2025 Children's Party had picked up speed. Everyone across the nation feels excited about these events. Companies working on the project moved faster at the Main Arena and Gokwe North Open Grounds. They made amazing progress in planting grass, building seating areas, making changing rooms, installing bright lights, and building restrooms.
The team transformed Nyamuroro High School by adding two nearly complete bathroom buildings and two places for students to sleep. At Nembudziya Government High School, where musicians will perform, workers built one bathroom building and two classroom buildings. They also added a home science lab and a senior science lab that reached wall height. Next comes the roof installation.
Dr. Muswere described plans to make buildings better in the Midlands Province, especially in Gokwe. Road crews continue to fix roads through the Emergency Road program. Major side roads received new gravel and pavement ahead of all the visitors coming to celebrate. Health services remain a top concern, with ten emergency medical teams and ambulances ready to help. An air ambulance will stand by for serious emergencies.
The government created a special hospital room for important guests, an isolation area, and sixteen telemedicine centers to keep everyone safe during the events. Dr. Muswere explained that they gathered many health services for the celebrations. These include emergency response teams, regular ambulances, air medical transport, and emergency supply kits. Workers are building a place to store bodies and making a hospital ward bigger at Nembudziya Hospital.
To add historical meaning to the celebration, the Independence Flame will travel through many districts before arriving at Nembudziya Growth Point. Vice President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga will light the flame on April 10 in Gweru. Then it passes through important locations, including the former Sikombela Detention Camp, where Vice President Kembo Mohadi will greet it. Workers placed concrete slabs on 132 graves at hero monuments throughout the Midlands to honor people who fought for freedom. A field museum and memorial stone should be finished at the former Sikombela Restriction Camp before April 17.
