Gopalganj curfew cycle continues, Kamruzzaman offers no end

Gopalganj district authorities extended a ten-hour curfew after giving residents a fourteen-hour break. Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman announced the restriction would start at 8:00pm and last until 6:00am the next morning. Officials had previously lifted the emergency order from 6:00am to 8:00pm to allow normal activities. The administration plans future curfew decisions based on security assessments with law enforcement agencies. Public safety concerns and property protection remain the main reasons for these measures.

Violence at a National Citizen Party rally triggered the initial emergency response on July 16. Authorities first imposed the curfew from 8:00pm until 6:00pm the following day. The second phase ran from 6:00pm on July 17 through 11:00am on July 18, with a brief three-hour pause. Officials then reinstated the measure from 2:00pm on July 18 without setting an end time. The third phase lasted from Friday evening at 8:00pm to Saturday morning at 6:00am.
