Delta State chief executive Sheriff Oborevwori received the Distinguished Governor Award from the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria during a ceremony at MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Friday. The honor inducted him into the Nigeria Order of Sports as the association concluded its Diamond Jubilee festivities, celebrating six decades of athletic reporting across the country.
The organization selected Oborevwori based on his government's financial backing for athletic facilities and programs benefiting young people, plus his consistent encouragement of journalists covering competitive events. Officials praised his backing for projects such as the National Youth Games and renovations underway at Warri Township Stadium, along with upkeep of other athletic venues throughout the state.
