Govt highlights progress in women's empowerment and MSME growth

The government made progress in supporting women and small businesses under President Mnangagwa's administration, Women Affairs Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said on Tuesday. The ministry exceeded targets from the National Development Strategy 1 and prepared for the next phase toward Vision 2030.

Officials opened eight service centers that assisted more than 9,000 survivors of gender violence and trained 229,000 small business owners. The ministry distributed 87,000 loans, connected 30,115 enterprises to markets, and created 23,436 workspaces through partnerships with private firms.

Workers completed projects in Chiredzi and Bulawayo to boost local business development. The ministry gave tractors to women sugarcane farmers and supplied 24 dairy cows to women in Mutasa District through the Women's Bank.

The strategic plan from 2026 to 2030 will focus on expanding financial access for women entrepreneurs and improving response systems for gender violence. The five-day workshop in Mutare brought together participants from across Zimbabwe to review the ministry's 2025 plan.
