GPD's absurd Win 5 crams a Strix Halo chip into a tiny screen

GPD announces the Win 5 gaming handheld as the first device powered by AMD's Strix Halo architecture. The portable console features the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor with sixteen Zen 5 cores and operates within a 55-75 watt thermal design power range. The integrated Radeon 8060S graphics processor contains forty compute units based on RDNA 3.5 technology. GPD claims this configuration delivers performance exceeding the RTX 4060 mobile graphics card. The manufacturer positions this handheld as the most powerful portable gaming device available.

The device displays games on a seven-inch IPS screen with 1920x1080 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate capabilities. The Win 5 supports memory configurations up to 128GB LPDDR5X at 8000 MT/s speeds and storage options reaching 4TB capacity. A detachable 80Wh battery pack allows the handheld to weigh 565 grams without the power source or 915 grams when attached. The company expects retail pricing below $2000 for the gaming system. GPD equips the Win 5 with modern control features and multiple connectivity ports for enhanced functionality.
