GRA declares 2026 Ghana year of tax compliance

Ghana's tax collection agency has designated the coming year as focused on voluntary compliance while establishing an independent appeals mechanism to resolve disputes outside lengthy court proceedings. Commissioner-General Anthony Sarpong told a post-budget forum that officials aim to strengthen cooperation with taxpayers and businesses to expand domestic revenue supporting national development goals.

The appeals board will provide faster resolution for taxpayers seeking redress after regulations stalled for five years received approval. Sarpong emphasized that voluntary participation creates a more efficient system benefiting both citizens and government operations.

The authority is investing in staff training and digital capabilities to improve service delivery while collaborating with civil society and tax professionals. Officials framed the initiative as supporting economic growth and transformation objectives through enhanced revenue collection.
