Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted religious ceremonies at the Sardar Sarovar Dam on Wednesday during Maha Navami celebrations of Sharad Navratri. The dam reached its maximum capacity of 138.68 meters for the sixth time since opening in 2017. Patel performed Jal Pujan rituals with Vedic chants and prayed for prosperity across Gujarat.
The reservoir supplies drinking water to more than 40 million people across 10,453 villages and 190 cities throughout the state. Patel inspected arrangements for the upcoming Ekta Day parade at the Statue of Unity and spoke with tourists. The annual event commemorates Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary on Oct. 31.
