Gujarat pays Rs 354 crore to moms under Namo Shree scheme

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel marked his fourth anniversary in office on September 13, highlighting significant progress in maternal healthcare initiatives. The Namo Shree Yojana emerged as his administration's flagship social security program for women since its launch in February 2024. Financial assistance totaling Rs 354 crore has reached over 6.21 lakh mothers during the program's 18-month operation. Nearly 11 lakh women have enrolled as beneficiaries under this comprehensive scheme.

Eligible participants receive phased financial support up to Rs 12,000 during their initial two pregnancies. The program coordinates with existing central initiatives, such as Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and Janani Suraksha Yojana, to enhance nutrition and access to institutional healthcare. Digital verification through the TeCHO+ portal ensures the transparent transfer of Direct Benefit payments to beneficiaries' bank accounts. Gujarat achieved remarkable health improvements, reducing its Maternal Mortality Ratio by 54.5 percent from 112 deaths per 100,000 births in 2013 to 51 in 2023. This performance exceeds national averages and meets the UN Sustainable Development Goals seven years ahead of schedule.
