Gunfire, tear gas rock Rukiga NRM rally as crowd rejects Kabafunzaki

Police fired teargas and bullets into the air during chaotic scenes at Monday's political rally. Angry voters completely rejected former minister Herbert Kabafunzaki when he tried to address them at Kyerero Health Centre. The crowd booed and shouted at the former labor minister until he could not speak. Candidate Alex Magezi Kanuga had invited Kabafunzaki to support his campaign bid. The move backfired spectacularly when voters turned hostile.

Campaign officials declared it wrong for candidates to bring outside people to joint rallies. Registrar Yaryakumanyi Selubowa Twaha tried to restore order but failed completely. Dr. Sylvia Alianaitwe received warm applause when she spoke to the same crowd. The female candidate managed to calm voters temporarily before chaos returned. Kanuga could not deliver his message as supporters continued disrupting his speech.

Tensions exploded between supporters of Kanuga and rival Patrick Kiconco Katabazi after the rally ended. Heated arguments broke out between the two camps at the venue. Police deployed riot control officers to break up the fighting crowds. Officers shot live rounds into the air to scatter the angry groups. Kanuga needed heavy police protection to escape the hostile gathering safely.
