German athletics coach Gunter Lange showed up at White City Stadium in Bulawayo to run a weeklong World Athletics Level Two course for middle-distance and long-distance training methods, and 15 coaches from Zimbabwe plus Botswana signed up for the program. National Athletics Association administrator Manuel Mpofu said getting someone with Lange's resume matters because the knowledge trickles down from coaches to athletes across the whole country.
The curriculum focuses on biomechanics and physiology while teaching coaches how to design training programs that translate theory into actual track workouts. Lange has worked in over 70 countries during his career, and participants will walk away with internationally recognized credentials that should boost Zimbabwe's coaching infrastructure.
