Rural youth across Gwanda District have accessed transformative vocational training programs through an initiative spearheaded by legislator Dr Omphile Marupi. The comprehensive skills development effort targets nurse aide care, mortuary science, beauty therapy, and security services sectors. Dr Marupi, who serves as Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, partnered with private organizations and stakeholders to deliver these programs. The training addresses employment gaps while creating entrepreneurship opportunities for young people from rural communities. Multiple beneficiaries have already obtained formal positions with established organizations.
Security guard training launched the empowerment program five months ago through collaboration with Mabaleka Security Services. The initiative has successfully trained approximately 400 youth participants during this period. Employment figures show that 250 graduates have secured positions with security companies such as Nokel, Cadsec, local authorities, and private employers throughout Gwanda. These workers provide protection services at educational institutions and commercial establishments. The program demonstrates effective public-private partnerships in addressing youth unemployment.
Healthcare sector training emerged from identified needs for home-based caregivers serving elderly residents, pensioners, and discharged patients requiring ongoing assistance. The nurse aide program has prepared 30 participants for this specialized field. Additionally, 10 morticians and two beauty therapists have completed their respective training modules. Dr Marupi emphasized the program's transformative impact on youth prospects while committing to expand training opportunities. The initiative continues building skills that provide participants with sustainable livelihood foundations.
