Gweru gets fresh trash trucks, streets set for scrub-up

Gweru just got two new garbage trucks for two hundred grand. The city council says this will help a lot with regular trash pickup, cutting down on dumping and health issues. An acting official, Livingston Churu, stated the new trucks, one skip loader and one eight-ton rig, will let them cover more neighborhoods and business areas.

Churu mentioned that even more trucks are on the way, including a tipper truck. He credited the national government for the support, saying it's a big step toward a cleaner city. This push is part of the following new minimum service standards for local authorities set by the government.

The council recently held a planning meeting about hitting those mandated service targets. Their goals for the next few years, aligned with national development plans, include building new schools, finding another water source, and creating a modern landfill site.
